A rasin in the sun essays
A rasin in the sun essays Being black in the 1960's was hard no matter where you lived. The Younger family is a typical black family living in the 1960's. There is great historical significance in this play about the North and the South's differences in segregation. The North is not as segregated as the South. The North was still segregated in the 1960's. People in white neighborhoods had things called blacklists. Blacklists are a list of persons who are under suspicion, disfavor of censure, or who are not to be hired, served or otherwise, accepted. When the Younger's try to buy a house, the neighborhood at first won't let them. Redlining was another form of segregation in the North. Banks use redlining. It means the withholding of home loan funding and insurance from low-income families. Steering is also another form of segregation and is often used in the 1960's. Steering is used by real estate agencies. Black families, such as the Youngers, are often steered away from white areas and shown black or mixed neighborhoods. Even though steering was illegal it is hard to prove. The North deals more with whites not living with blacks. The South is greatly segregated. White people really hated black people in the South. Jim Crow Laws? or segregation laws were a name given to former laws of the Southern United States. They provided for separation of blacks and whites. Blacks were not allowed to drink from the same water fountains, or even use the same bathrooms. Segregation separated them in streetcars, trains, schools and even theaters. The Ku Klux Klan played a big part in the segregation between blacks and whites. They were a terrorist organization who threatened violence against blacks that challenged the established order. One of the main forms of violence was lynching. Lynching was when mobs executed blacks or others whom they believed to be criminals or who challenged segregation. ...

Coca Colas Micro and Macro Environment Essays
Coca Colas Micro and Macro Environment Essays Coca Colas Micro and Macro Environment Paper Coca Colas Micro and Macro Environment Paper Macro inappropriatenesss main role is to match competences, abilities and resources within the organization and market opportunities outside outside of the organization. Understanding of customers needs is main essence of whole story but marketers should also be aware of factors and forces that can cause customer needs to be evolve. A change in customers needs will directly affect ability of organization to serve customers, this really implies for marketers to be aware of what is happening in external or macro environment. Objectifications. Com[accessed : 11 seep , 2009 )surest Bed (2004) describes Macro environment as composition of social and international ores that affect the society within which an organization operates. There is not much that companies can do to control these powerful forces therefore it is very much of importance for marketers to understand these factors and forces so that they can devise an optimal marketing strategy to handle these conditions. According to Kettle(1984), The macro environment consist of the larger societal forces that affect micro environment (internal). These forces are Peg Peg Upstart . Peg marketing Mix ,Econometrical Kumar(2004) suggested that this element indicates economic trends of external environments and identifies overall economic disposition of individuals and society , their paying capacity , earning , interest rates , inflation and unemployment rates. This factor is of very much importance as customers sort out their needs according to their paying capacity. For example if overall economical disposition of a town is not that good , it means people living in that town are less capable of spending much , this analysis can help marketers to select right kind of products in that town. Demographical is study of human populations in terms of size, density, action, age, sex, race, and occupation . It can identify the different age structure, which is necessary, as marketers need to know who they have to serve, it allows them to make the profit making decisions for the marketing mix. Identify trends in population growth at relevant ages for your industry(there may be zero population growth in general but high growth in the number of people over 65). It help identify marketers of their customers, less growth of married couple in town shows that there is an increase in unmarried people and civil partnerships and usually it is seen that unmarried couple in different regions f the world tends less attracted of having children , eventually can be summarizes that less married people , less consumption of children products particular to that area. Weatherboardings. Com , [accessed : 09 Seep , macro legal environment identifies legal changes and restriction for products to launch and grow their profitability , for example in many areas of world some products are not liked and allowed to sell due to societal or religious obligations , in many areas some particular products and trends are warm welcomes , an example of this is pork and wine which is not permitted to trade legally . Therefore major food chains as McDonald and KEF use other sources to serve their customer. Political and sociologically and social macro environment identifies societal motives and trends , for example , in modern day world people prefer organic foods and greener environment , social behaviors , values and norms , society attitude towards different issues as global warming , make of family structure etc . Politically these issues are legalized in different areas of the world. Technologically identifies changes in daily life technological scenarios of societies as now online markets has taken place of high street , online renovations play an important part in daily trade of economy. Manage. Com [accessed : 09 Seep 2009 ])intercultural forces are also an important players in this regard as it heavily matters , what kind of weather a particular group of people living in. You cannot sell fur coats in Kenya and most parts of warm weathered countries, especially in hot summer. Likewise in Russia and Canada thin clothes are rare and clothes to cope with tough winter season are most likely to be accepted. The natural environment consists of natural resources that are required as inputs by marketers , natural disasters can cause a change in demand. The cultural environments environment consist of institutions and other forces that affect societys basic values, perceptions, priorities and behaviors An organization must carefully watch and respond to changes in these forces as they all can shape opportunities and also create threats. Number of consumers for alcoholic drinks has risen in last year. Surveys has shown that underage of 25 , alcoholic drinks usage has risen significantly this has dropped popularity of soft drinks . New brands with zero sugar and diet products by Coca Cola has attracted many customers of old age to come back to these drinks. The society is now more educated and concerned. Soft drinks arent considered healthy, and as people know of the problems linked with drinking bad drinks that rot teeth, it has an effect on the soft drink industry . There are many developments in the bottling, to suit image, such as Coca-Colas slick shape, the different sizes, which provide more acceptability and market attractiveness. Coca Cola is main sponsor for sports events in all areas Of the world , this make people feel that Coca Cola is helping society for the sake of good as they expect from large organizations to help society. (A Buckley , 1993)Economical situations plays an important role in macro environment . In the soft drink industry prices vary significantly. Cheap Products attract more customers than expensive ones especially in times of economic struggle. In year 2008 net assets and income for Coca Cola has dropped due to economic struggle factor as this Coca Colas product is mainly unconsumed by young people , decline in earning of parents has minimized their budget and spending capacity for their children. The natural environment problems or people concerned of greener world are more satisfied as cans are recycled after usage and create no harm to environment. We have seen many alterations of flavor inventions, and then many more flavors too. These include diet and caffeine free to attract the more healthy conscious, many fruity-flavored soft drinks, and many more. His is due to the technology environment, Industry is using the developments in technology to provide more varieties to access a greater market. G. Lancaster and P. Reynolds , 1998) Political , legal environment , The enhanced concern for the environment also comes under the topic of cultures. Besides, cultures have many other influences, like peoples views about themselves that affect the market. Coca-Cola, promoted that there is an image associated with drinking their product. People use its products as a way of self-expression so they buy what will make them feel good. For example national celebrities images are printed on cans and bottles , green coke is also an example. Conclusion have seen that there are still lot of room for Coca Cola to do in arrest place. Especially now with changing macro environment forces that are compelling market to shrink for soft drinks. Coca Cola has realized change in external environment and introduce some new products and price ranges including offers for retailers and individuals. diet coke and zero coke are brands to attract customers who are more concerned about their health. In 2007 low and now sugar products were launched making this range up to 53% from 2001 in Britain . Glacial vitamin water is launched in London which is single packing of 500 ml With three different flavors of orange , lemonade and raspberry/apple. In the soft drink industry these forces are mostly all positive and therefore can benefit the consumers. Part Bodacious how marketing mix is used by selected organization to gain competitive advantages Marketing MixlntroductionMarketing mix is a concept first presented by Neil H. Borden in his articles in 1964 , Borden started using this term after Scullion named marketing manager a mixer of ingredients. McCarthy grouped these elements into 4 AS. Afterwards as industry grew more complicated and integrated especially after technological boom that brought world globally on a scenario of local market , now to grasp he view more comprehensively it is also described as ups by some authors. Now we will look at how Coca-Cola has used their marketing mix. The marketing mix is a combination Of 4 parts; product, price, promotions and place. The product- The product (Coca-Cola soft drink) not only includes just the liquid in it but also the packaging. On the product-service continuum we see that a soft drink provides little service, apart from the convenience and comfort. Soft drinks are mainly to satisfy the need of thirst. However, people are always of different nature an behaviors, some like more and others want less. Therefore Coca-Cola have made available different choices by providing many sizes. Consumers also can have particular tastes, and in this field , they also have been provided lot of options. So, although thirst is basic need to be satisfied and that is the main job required, consumer are having other advantages in the taste and size. This all sum up to the product line, which is a term used to describe a group of products that are close in their functions in a similar way, are sold to the same consumer groups, and advertise in the same way. Coca-Cola has introduced lot of different flavors and sizes as described earlier, but also several brands such as Sprite, Lift, Fauna and Diet Coke that enhance the product line length, making full use of the market to maximize profitability and growth. Coca-Cola, however, also focuses on creating an image of the product. With the help of this they make it social drink, one thou would like to have in ago times. So when consumers go and buy Coca-Cola, they are not only satisfying thirst but taking on an image, an idea and reasonably related thought. We are going to a party we have to get Coca-Cola. Through promotion people now been transferred the idea that its only cool to drink Coca-Cola, and to be seen with anything else is cheap. One of its advertising managing focused on enjoying of drinks , they have infused a thought that drinking is not only required when you are thirsty but it can be used when one want to relax and enjoy or get rid of stress in daily routine life. The product is made convenient , to be bought on frequent basis, instant , and with a minimum of comparison and buying effort . The appearance of the product is attractive with the bright red color. It has a intelligently designed bottle shape that fits in your hand better, and reflects a cool and more futuristic look. The quality of the soft drink should be high on permanent basis. Sealed caps guarantee that fizz is not lost. The bottles are light weight , with comparatively flexible packaging, so they wont break or leak, and are not too much heavy to casually walk around with. The cans are also light and safe. All of this is a part of the product, from the drink to the image. And with the help of promotions Coca-Cola points to create an attractiveness for this. Some of their advertisement campaigns include beach scenes, which creates a connection of Coca-Cola and fun together in consumers mind. Coca-Cola heavily focus on advertisement schemes, always willing and looking for new ideas and flooding the TV with Coca-Cola, most of the time boosting their image as being socially accepted and fun. Coca-Cola works on the pull strategy in their advertisements. As, they urge to the consumers to create the demand for their product which creates a demand on the retailers and then back to them. For example, in supermarkets and convenience stores Coca-Cola has their own fridge which contains only their products. There is little personal selling, but that is made up for in public relations and corporate image. Coca-Cola is major sponsors in lot of events happening in the world of sports and recreational activities. This is another way of creating awareness and bonds for the product. They also use competitions tricks, for example by opening lid you can win an instant prize, to encourage consumers to buy their product over the competitions products. Coca-Cola promotions then create knowledge and overall liking about the product through campaigns that tells it has the best taste, is the most popular and is the one of the future ,in short , making it best of all, whilst appealing to a large group of consumers. Coca-Cola approaches all possible retailing stores in working over third part, place. In supermarkets and convenient stores Coca-Cola products are always very easy to identify, and normally make up the greater chances of buying it. This increases their market exposure through effective use of the distribution channels. For a FMC it is of very much important that they can be located and purchased easily. With the many automatic can machines located in many sports stadiums and shopping malls, you dont need to go in any store. It increases circulation speed of the product. Pricing strategy is the last area of the marketing mix. Coca-Cola products would appear, on the racks, with most expensive range of soft drinks moon to supermarkets, at approximately double the price of no name brands. It is due to multiple reason , one is obvious to cover extra cost of advertisement campaigns, prices kept high to create a special image of the product in consumers mind that they are nor only buying a drink but they are entering in a special range of fun recreation , it depicts an idea that everyone is not cool and futuristic. That is why in most of its campaign , coke is being consumed by people who are extra ordinary and ideal for a larger group of people. In this way it creates assumption in ones mind of being different room norms. When people buy Coca-Cola they are not just buying the beverage but also the image that goes with it, therefore to have the price higher reiterates the fact that the product is of a better quality than the rest and that creates a feeling in consumers mind that he is not cheap. This is known as value-based pricing and is used by many other industries in attracting consumers. A. Hutching 1995)Conclusions-Cola is using marketing mix to get an advantage over its rivals . As we know , it is an age of self awareness and educated society . This society is more concerned about health and environmental issues. Now consumers also think and decide who is better in market not only from product aspect but overall rating is given on the basis of organizations participation and awareness in different issues of modern ay Coca-Cola is well known for intelligently using all these cards to get dominance over its competitors and is successful in my point of view.

Do you think that sport helps develop good character Discuss Essay
Do you think that sport helps develop good character Discuss - Essay Example As sportsmen follow these disciplinary requirements and avoid disciplinary measures that develop good character, which is the ultimate goal of all disciplines. As such, it is quite clear, that sports play a major role in developing good character in the sports field. For example, the soccer sport follows the FIFA rules that govern world participation in a football field. The rules dictate heavy fines and bans to undisciplined footballers and advocates for fairness. Indeed, footballers have become role models with good characters in most cases. Actually, many people believe that putting their children to play sport, helps develop a good character and, I agree with that.Ã In addition, sports require maximum concentration and hence deny the participants time and chance to develop unethical traits. Hence, it promotes good character. In addition to helping people develop a good character, it also helps you to live a very healthy life.Ã Hence, I would recommend participation in sports for developing good character and a healthy living. Nevertheless, all of us cannot go to sports and should therefore adopt other ways of developing good character. Religion and individual personality play major role in developing good

Counseling clients Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Counseling clients - Essay Example The offenders used in this context and to which the assessment tool applies are adult offenders. The Prevention Assessment Tool or PAT has various domains that help explain the criminal behavior among adults. In the first domain, charges as well as referrals are employed to assess the possibility of re-offending by the adults. Referrals are included here if they have a qualifying disposition that may include adjudication withheld. The second domain helps to assess information. In initial assessments, behavior is assessed for the past six months. In the final assessment, behavior is assessed in the last four weeks and may incorporate a program administered for four weeks or less. The third domain focuses on employment and use of free time. It establishes what the adult offender does during his or her free time. Community service is also included in this domain and this information helps to evaluate the practicability of various programs used to correct conduct (Phipott&Grimme 2009). Incorporating this assessment tool will identify the various areas that require technical assistance. This action is possible because the tool is designed to evaluate various crime prevention needs. This tool is particularly helpful because it can access four basic sectors of justice. They include; cross-cutting issues, custodial and non-custodial measures, access to justice, as well as policing. This assessment tool is administered through paperwork. The assessment tool is, however, not designed to give an in-depth analysis of the offenders and their behaviors. The tool is meant to provide an initial assessment. This assessment is based on aspects such as crime concerns, problems and capacities, and the socio-economic situations. The tool also provides a concrete guide on issues that examine the needs for preventing crime both locally and nationally. The application of this tool also has

Importance Of Geography To International Relations Politics Essay
Importance Of Geography To International Relations Politics Essay At first, it is necessary to identify the important issues that are going to be developed, I rather to start with the international relations which is the study of human interactions through national borders and the factors that affect those interactions. This definition briefly gives a globalized approach that makes people understand that nations are not the unique actor involve in the developed of the international relations but now there are many other institutions that actually affect those relationships and in some cases can change its complete direction. Those new actors can be intergovernmental organizations, nongovernmental organizations, international nongovernmental organizations and multinational corporations. On the other hand, there is the geography that would be explained based on this quote: Geography is the study of the patterns and processes of human (built) and environmental (natural) landscapes, where landscapes comprise real (objective) and perceived (subjective) space.à [1]à , in a simple way the previous definition immediately reminds us to the key problem to treat. The most important relation between the geography and the international relations appeared when countries realize the differences they had with their neighboring countries, in culture, thinking and the last but the relevant one, the resources. In the final years of the XIX century began the study of the geopoliticsà [2]à that appears as consequences of three important situations that occurred in the international level. The first one is the consolidation of nation-state that is a territory with a population whose has sovereignty and the power to manage that territory, when this word was defined, the head of the states was concern about having the bigger territory as it was possible, also appears terms related with the national interest. The second event that marked the study of geopolitics is the II industrial revolution where the main resource demanded was the economic capital and in a secondary instance, the natural resources; with the revolution, states become aware of the nee d of the resources that they did not have so they had to get it from other nation-states. The third thing is related to the liberalism and the socialism that in few words, are expansionist ideologies. The socialism that says that the best government is the one that guarantees the equality between the members of the society people under this believe thinks that the socialism is possible just if it is in a global scale, and the liberalism is the ideology of the believe that the democracy is the best polity and every single country must have it, these theory arises and develop the idea of the universal rights. The factors already named, are the causes of the emergence of the interrelation between the geography and the international relations because the strategic countries started to look in the non strategic countries a sources to get everything they needed to increase their economies and guarantee a successful development of their society, so they began invading other territories already delimited (randomly) and tried to impose their authority everywhere they arrive, this caused a drastically changed in the international relation because every single country realized that they were not alone and that now had to fight to keep the current state they had, also states were seeing each other as a treat, because of this there were continues fights. A significant example of this, is what happened in Europe in the final years of the XIX centuries, the time know as the age of imperialism. Having occurred a list of situations that changed the image that Europe had of themselves. European countries saw Africans as defenseless people that needed to be defended. They sent people to study the behavior of the people living in the black continent, after a period the powerful European countries were completely inside of Africa and had a control over it. The imperial that used strategies to get the richest (resources) places in Africa was Great Britain who developed important naval and military power to fight not just with Africans but also to defeat the other European countries such as Portugal, France and Germany that were also trying to expand their territory and sovereignty in the dominated country. Finally Great Britain got the power from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic and from Cabo to Cairo. This has many consequences for the world order and organization, in this moment began the overseas trade of slaves and caused the emergence of African countries as nations whose h as their power based on guns. There some important authors that consider that without the age of imperialism do not hear were possible things like the spread of European languages in the hold world, also were an absence of institutions that makes the international relations what it is today. The previous paragraph shows how the application of the geography in the decisions to make in the international level (that affect another nations and their relation) can produce a lot of consequences, those would be positive or negative but the history shows that most of them has been positives and those that were negative, evolved while the time was running and now we live in a organized world that obviously is not perfect but at least spite of that are many potential fights, this can be and are controlled with the tools that international institutions has to keep the world order and the peaceful relations between nations. Another example that can be explained to prove the affirmation at the beginning is what is happening in the Antarctic, the polar caps are being thawed. But what happens with this situation? At first, it is known that many countries have their economy based in the freight transport or activities related to, some countries are Malaysia, Netherlands Panama and Singapore. The way how they are affected is because this important geographic change, caused because of an environmental issue, makes that the ports that are placed in those countries are not going to be as crowed as they used to be. All this because of the National geography showed a documental about how a group of Fishers in a big fishing boat decided to explore the Antarctic and see how difficult would be to cross from the Atlantic to the pacific to arrive to China, avoidant passed by the Indian Ocean. Second consequences is that now exist (for some countries) the possibility to distributed the last part of the world (the only one that has not being distributed) experts in geography and geopolitics affirms that it could (and most likely) leads to a struggle for having control over that zone. The third issue related to this change is about Netherlands, some projections demonstrate that if the polar caps continue thawing, this country ,that is place under the sea level and that has survive with the develop of very specific engineering, would be partially awash. Again it was prove, the international relations is considerably affected by the geography, this example is just a supposition of what would happen, but there consequences (positive or negative) may be much deeper of what it has been explained. Not to go too far, there is perfect example happening inside of Colombia and involve United States on one hand and on another hand is Venezuela and Ecuador. This is related to the military bases that United States has and use in Colombia. The interest of the US on having a close relation with Colombia is not exactly to help the country, but is for the geographical position. It is known that allied countries on Venezuelaà ´s side are facing the consequences of having a revolutionary government and in the case of Venezuela; they are having many structural changes to become a socialist country. Because of this, Venezuela and Ecuador are seen as potential threats. So, what US want is to somehow have a control over the region or at least being constantly reported about what is happening in those neighboring countries. The example shows how a geographical position of one country could become this attractive, for another country that is a world power, and leads to create and maintain a rel ation just to explore around him. Nowadays it still being important the geography in the international relations but, for many people, has took a secondary position in order of relevance, this is because of the globalization, with developing of technology, the media communication and the many cheap and fast means of transport, the hold world is constantly connected and easily what happens in one place has consequences in another extreme of the world. So, is not necessary to being neighboring countries to attack or to have influence over a region or country. Can be said that the affirmation made in the last paragraph is truth but has a critic and is that spite that the economies are highly developed, somewhere almost everything can be produce or invented and the transportation is not a problem anymore; there are some resources that are vital for a society to exist but that are scarce resources and the real fight will come when countries begin to use the force or the military force to obtain those scarce resources. Those are water and oil, but the last one is the one about the countries are already concern, everywhere there is people trying to find a complete substitute of this and there are many advances on it but oil continue having its key importance. Everybody would think that maybe the coming war is going to be in Europe again or maybe Asia but it is not, this war will be in the Middle East exactly where are placed Iraq, Iran and Syria. All this is because between those countries they have the 55% of the worldà ´Ã [3]à s oil res erves. Finally, can be said that the geography is not a physical study but also gets involves in the human activities and interactions, also is related to the international relations being more specific, is related to the foreign policy of a country, this is because when an issue about distribution (resources, land, space, sea) emergence every single country need to establish their position and an idea of how are they going to act when facing the issue. When the geopolitics appeared, there were some events that mark the way it was going to be studied and how would be that study based on. Those events are the definition of nations-states (territory, population and sovereignty), the II industrial revolution that made countries to see the need of interdependence they should create and have, to develop the production and the new definition in that time, the economies of scale. The third factor that influence the study of the geopolitics is the liberalism and the socialism that are theories about the best polities to be applied on a state. Another important argument that supports the affirmation was the historical approach, because there plenty of evidence that shows that we are not alone and is needed to interact with other countries and organizations in order to get an improvement or to decrease a threat. Well, States are interconnected, and is important to keep a peaceful relation to maintain a world order and stability in the international level. When a problem is being studied, it is vital to go to a Geographic map to understand which could be the geographical factors that influence in the develop of the problem or also doing this, can be conclude that the problem is a totally about a geographical factor. Also many people involve in the geopolitics believes that the international relation just talks about who can do what to whomà [4]à and this would not to be answer without taking into account many other science but from all of it, the most determinant is the geography.

Invention of the Gas Mask essays
Invention of the Gas Mask essays THE GAS MASK Garrett Augustus Morgan was a practical man who wanted to improve the lives of the American people. He was an extraordinary businessman as well as an inventor who created things that made the lives of many people safer and more convenient. Garrett Morgan was born on March 4th, Paris, Kentucky in 1877, and died in 1963. His invention of the Gas Mask was used by American soldiers during World War I (1914-18) and by fire departments around the country. The value of Garrett Morgan's "gas inhalator" was first acknowledged during a successful rescue operation of several men trapped by a tunnel explosion in the Cleveland waterworks some 200 feet below the surface of Lake Erie. During the emergency, Morgan, his brother, and two other volunteers-all wearing inhalators-were the only men able to descend into the smoky, gas-filled tunnel, and save several workers from asphyxiation. Orders for the Morgan inhalator soon began to pour into Cleveland from fire companies all over the nation but, as soon as Morgan's racial identity became known, may of them were canceled. In the south, it was necessary for Morgan to utilize the services of a white man to demonstrate his invention. During World War I the Morgan inhalator was transformed into a gas mask used by combat troops. In 1912, Morgan received a patent on a Safety Hood and Smoke Protector. Two years later, a refined model of this early gas mask won a gold medal at the International Exposition of Sanitation and Safety, and another gold medal from the International Association of Fire Chiefs. In my opinion, I feel that the invention of the gas mask was very useful, and it saved many lives. I do, however feel that it was wrong for people to disregard his inventions because he was black. ...

Anne Frank Biography and the Short Story Line Essays
Anne Frank Biography and the Short Story Line Essays Anne Frank Biography and the Short Story Line Paper Anne Frank Biography and the Short Story Line Paper Annelies Marie Frank (the full name of Anne Frank) was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Her parents were Otto and Edith Frank. Anne was the second daughter; her sister Margot was three years older. Anneââ¬â¢s father worked at his familyââ¬â¢s bank. Her mothers job was to take care of everything at home. Margot and Anne were carefree girls and they had many friends in their neighborhood. However, their parents were worried. Adolf Hitler and his party had made the Jews the scapegoat for all of Germanys social and economic problems. The anti-Semitism in the country was growing. At the beginning of 1933, the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NSDAP or Nazi party) came to power in Germany. Adolf Hitler, the leader of this party, becom Chancellor. He was responsible for the new government. Before very long, there was discrimination against Jews. Germany changed from a democracy into a dictatorship. Anneââ¬â¢s parents no longer felt safe. Otto Frankââ¬â¢s bank was also in financial trouble because of the worldwide economic crisis. Otto and Edith Frank decided to leave Germany. The Frank family went to the Netherlands in the summer of 1933. Anneââ¬â¢s father had the opportunity to set up a company in Amsterdam that sold Opekta (an ingredient used for making jam). During that period, Anne and Margot stayed with their Grandmother who lived in Aachen, Germany. Their mother commuted to and from Amsterdam trying to find the family a place to live. In their now home in Amsterdam, the Frank Family felt free and safe, until the German Army invaded the Netherlands on May 10, 1940. The Occupation of the Netherlands began on May 15, 1940. The discrimination against the Jews began then as well: Jews couldnt own their own businesses, Jewish children had to go to Jewish schools, all Jews had to wear a yellow star, and countless other restrictions. There were even rumors that the Jews would be packed off to Germany. The rumors that Jews would have to go to Germany, just like thousands of other Jews living in Europe, were true, The Nazis planned to send all the Jews to work camps in Germany. In 14. 06. 1942, Annes 13 birthday, she received a lot of gifts, one of them was a diary from her parents, she on him the letters to her imagination friend- Kitty. Three month after Anneââ¬â¢s birth- day Margot receives a call-up to Westerbork camp, with the threat that the entire family will be arrested if Margot does not report. The Frank family was frightened from that letter and they decided to do something. So in 9. 7. 1942 Anne and her family (Otto, Edith, and Margot) went to a hiding place in Ottos work building. In the buildingââ¬â¢s Annexe Otto and some of him friends at work (Miep Gies, Elisabeth (Bep) Voskuijl, Johannes Kleimwn, and Victor Kugler) created a place for two families to stay for a while until the end of the war. After a week the van Daan Family (Hermenn, Petronella, and Peter) joined them at the Annexe. The Annexe was split, the Franks in the first floor- Otto, Edith, and Margot in one room and Anne in the second and the van Daans in the second floor Hermenn and Petronella in one room (that also was the dining room and the kitchen), and Peter was in the second room (that also was the way to go up- stairs to the attic). After a while the Nazis started to look for hiding Jews all over Amsterdam, so one of the helpers build a bookcase (that can move) to hide the doorway to the Annexe. The time passed and the seven hiding people decided that they have enough room and food to hide another person, so they asked Miep (another one of their helpers) to fined some one she knows and need a place to hide in. Miep did find a man (44 years old) named Albert Dussel. Albert joined the Annexe in 10. 11. 42 to share Annes room. Wail the eight of them were in the Annexe, downstairs people were working; only the helpers know that there were people in hiding upstairs, so the hiding people had to not move and not toke (if it is necessary, to whisper) all of the work hours. Their helpers brought the hiding people food. At the beginning they had enough food for three meals. But as the time passed they had problems getting food for all eight people. At the last six- five month they had only one glass of porridge for breakfast, a bit of lettuce and brown beans (even rotten) for lunch, and for dinner the same. In 25 on May 1944 Anne wrote to her dairy: Mother says well skip breakfast, eat porridge and bread for lunch and fried potatoes for dinner and, if possible, vegetables or lettuce once or twice a week. Thats all there is
